A Tale of Two Couches
We thought we were pretty lucky when we were able to snag a couch and chair set from the home of our producer’s late great aunt. That is, until we brought them to the theater and started rehearsing with them…

As you can see, the furniture comes with vivid, shining gold upholstery. What you can’t see in the pictures are the numerous unidentifiable stains and the rips in the upholstery. Also not pictured is the musty smell of old person’s home permeating the entire theater, a smell no amount of Febreeze was able to eradicate. I was assured that the previous owner did not die on the sofa and wait three weeks to be discovered, but I still have my suspicions. I also have my suspicions about mold, because several members of the cast and crew would erupt in spontaneous allergy attacks whenever exposed to the furniture.

Well, I’m pleased to announce that we’ve finally found some replacement furniture. Thanks to actress Krystal Kohler and her connections to the wonderful people at Trinity University’s Department of Speech and Drama, we now have a beautiful new antique sofa and chair, a striking addition to any set design.
Check back here soon for pictures of the new furniture, or just come see The Children’s Hour, starting August 20. And if anyone wants a gold sofa and chair, let us know!
